Admission Requirements

Whether you’re pursuing a Doctorate, Master’s, Postgraduate Diploma, or Certificate Program, UMBS provides flexible learning options to fit your goals.

  • POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA
  • A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university with at least a Third Class.
  • HND holders with a minimum of Lower Credit in a relevant field may be considered.
  • For PGD in specialized fields (e.g., PGD in Accounting, Criminology, Economics, Environmental Management, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering), candidates must have prior knowledge or work experience in the related field.
  • Work experience may be required for some PGD programs.
  • PROFESSIONAL MASTERS
  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division (2:2) from a recognized university.
  • HND holders with a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in a relevant field may be considered.
  • Relevant work experience (usually 2–5 years) may be required for some programs such as MBA and MPA.
  • A good score in the university’s postgraduate entrance examination (if applicable).
  • Candidates applying for MBA (Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, HRM, MIS) must have a background in Business, Accounting, Economics, or related fields.
  • DOCTORATE PROGRAMMES
  • A Master’s degree in Public Administration or a related field from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale.
  • Candidates with relevant work experience in administration, governance, or policy-making may have an added advantage.
  • Submission of a research proposal relevant to the chosen field.
  • Satisfactory performance in an interview or entrance examination (if applicable).
  • CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
  • A minimum of five (5) O'Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • Applicants with relevant work experience in procurement, logistics, or supply chain management may be considered, even if they lack formal academic qualifications.
  • Open to professionals seeking career advancement in procurement and logistics.
  • EXECUTIVE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
  • Minimum Educational Qualification: O’Level (SSCE, NECO, GCE) with at least 5 credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • Work Experience (Preferred but Not Mandatory): Relevant industry experience is an added advantage.
  • Open to Professionals & Business Owners: No prior degree is required.
  • Commitment to Learning: Willingness to complete coursework, practical sessions, and assessments.
  • Application Fee Payment: Proof of payment for the application fee.
 
  • GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMS
  • All applicants must possess a minimum of five (5) O'Level credits, including English and Mathematics.
  • NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate (for postgraduate applicants).
  • Two academic or professional reference letters.
  • Statement of purpose or personal statement (for Master's and Doctorate applicants).
  • Applicants may be required to undergo a screening/interview process.
